What is a Duck Race?
A stretch of River is chosen for the race (approx 250m) with adequate space for
public viewing and a ‘fun day’ The Race is started by a celebrity or civic luminary.
Local radio and press promote adoptions and the event on the day The public ‘adopt-a
duck’ via various methods points (which could be banks, chain stores or merchandising
outlets at festivals) pick up forms to sponsor or “adopt” a duck to benefit local
charities.Another source is The Charity mails out to its regular givers list to
sell adoptions of Ducks before going public.
The finishing line is a trap (as seen below) which is attached to the ‘boom’ track
thus totally enclosing the ducks The Numbers are read from the Computer programme
and the prizes announced. Prizes have been donated by corporate support in exchange
for featured advertising in the campaign. (e.g. A Car , Holiday package, Store vouchers,
Electronics goods, Computers etc.
